Leadership Readings and Me

The readings on leadership theories and concepts for our class have been very influential on my leadership style. I was actually very surprised with how familiar I already was with some of the theories, but was even more surprised to find out just how many theories there are. It has only been one month since the beginning of class, yet the readings so far have already had a big impact on my view of leadership. For example, the novel Good to Great by Jim Collins has shown me that it is up to me to change my leadership style to the situation in order to be an overall successful leader. Through our readings we have established in class that leadership is something that can be learned, but it is my decision and my own motivation to learn and practice the skills that will take me from a good leader to a great leader. I have also learned that I need to not be afraid to speak up and to have more of a backbone, something that is currently very difficult for me to do. However, this is an important skill for me to learn because when the time comes I need to be able to make the hard decisions and decide who the right people are to keep on the bus and who needs to get off the bus, as discussed in the novel. I am excited to see how much more I will learn about leadership this semester and throughout my life. I am already developing into a stronger and more confident leader.
